1. Who we are
Compare Caravan Repairs Ltd is a UK caravan-repair comparison marketplace operated from the United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, we are the data controller for the personal data we hold about you.
You can reach us via our contact form. If you would prefer to write to us, please contact us first and we'll provide a postal address.
2. The data we collect
We collect personal data in the following circumstances:
- Account data — name, email address, password (stored as a hash), and your role (caravan owner or repair business).
- Owner profile data — caravan(s) you list, your postcode, contact phone number for accepted jobs.
- Business profile data— business name, address, postcode, phone, email, certifications, T&Cs, service radius.
- Job & quote data — descriptions of work, quotes received, messages between owners and engineers, accepted quotes, completion status, reviews.
- Payment data — handled by Stripe and PayPal. We do not store your card details. We retain transaction identifiers for accounting and fraud-prevention purposes.
- Technical data — IP address, browser/user-agent, and pages visited, captured in server logs.
3. How we use your data and lawful basis
- Contract — to operate your account, match jobs to engineers, deliver quotes and messages, and process payments.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the service secure, prevent fraud, and improve the product. We balance these interests against your rights and freedoms.
- Consent — for optional marketing emails and non-essential cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation — to comply with tax, accounting, and other laws applicable to our business.
4. Who we share data with
We share data only with processors needed to run the service, and only the minimum required:
- Hosting, database and infrastructure providers
- Email delivery providers, for transactional and marketing email
- Stripe and PayPal (payments)
- Local repair businesses — only after you accept a quote do they receive your contact details for that specific job.
All of our processors are bound by data-processing agreements and process your data only on our instructions.
5. Where your data is stored
Our primary database is hosted in the United Kingdom (London region). Some of our processors operate globally — where data is transferred outside the UK or EEA, we rely on UK-approved transfer mechanisms (such as the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses) and assess each transfer for adequate protection.
6. How long we keep your data
- Account data — for as long as your account is active. You may close your account at any time, after which we delete or anonymise your data within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain it (e.g. transaction records).
- Job and quote history — retained for up to seven years for accounting and dispute-resolution purposes.
- Marketing email logs — retained for up to two years to honour suppression and demonstrate consent.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Have inaccurate data corrected
- Have your data erased (where applicable)
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Data portability — receive your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us via our contact form. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Cookies
For information about how we use cookies and how to control them, please see our cookie policy.
9. Children
Our service is not intended for children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under that age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we'll remove it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available on this page with the date it was last updated.
